Having already been mesmerised by Melbourne-based Neo Soul collective 30/70 at Jazz Cafe earlier this year, you can imagine our excitement when we caught wind of a solo project from lead singer Allysha Joy and it's safe to say that it didn't disappoint.
Packed full of raw, earthy live sounds and an old-school hip hop beat, 'Selfish' boasts many of the ingredients that originally converted us to 30/70 fans plus an extra helping of Joy's sumptuous smoky vocals.
Seeing her solo project as her chance to take the lead on the vision and the narrative of the music, she stated "for me this record is just another extension of the 30/70 collective, constantly unravelling and branching out." We applaud this mentality and Joy finds herself in good company with the likes of Amber Navran whose solo project from earlier this year stayed very much true to its Moonchild roots.
