It’s time for your formal introduction to Dominic Canning (a.k.a. Doom Cannon). 'We Are One' is the keys-oriented producer’s debut solo release, having already made big waves with jazz-centric band TriForce, as well as tearing up stages around London with side outfit Project Karnak.
Though nothing Canning touches can be described as typical, 'We Are One' is at the very least a venture into new territory. A disorientating, almost pulse-bending lo-res intro serves as soapbox to a melody that sounds so analogue you can almost feel the circuitry melting under the heat.
After the suspense of an interlude that jerks a glitchy nod towards the likes of Telefon Tel Aviv, the true beast of 'We Are One' is unleashed. A squelching synth bass line and a similarly intricate broken beat create a deeply pleasing tension between the ambling melody and adrenaline-fuelled rhythm.
'We Are One' also featured on the Waella’s Choice London on Key compilation, a celebration of the premium of pianists and keys players performing in the thick of London’s thriving jazz scene. Fans of Doom Cannon should make a priority of following on SoundCloud and bracing themselves for a peppering of tracks this summer and beyond.
