Durand Jones & The Indications serve up shimmering old soul in the first track from sophomore album American Love Call.
This latest release from the Indiana quintet is a masterclass in great American soul. The track sees the band’s drummer/vocalist Aaron Frazer and frontman Jones go back and forth over a melody awash with glistening licks of guitar and rich horns.
Starting as a side project between a group of music students at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, they recorded their original tracks on a $452.11 recording budget. The recordings subsequently became the basis for their acclaimed 2016 self-titled debut album (re-released earlier this year).
Since then the group have grown from strength to strength, refining a sound that channels some of the greats including Charles Bradley, Sharon Jones and Darondo. For more, be sure to check out this live performance of some of our favourite tracks from the debut album (check that sax solo at 8:27).
American Love Call will be out on 1 March 2019. In the meantime, cop yourself tickets to their upcoming Europe and North America tour here.
