We’ve been fortunate enough to see the likes of Laura Misch, Joe Hertz and Emma Jean-Thackray perform in the intimate archspace of Bermondsey Social Club and this evening we were settled in to see one of our favourite up and coming London prospects, Elisa & Srigala.
Opening up proceedings for the evening was Giorgia Lo who set the tone for the evening with her silky smooth vocals laced over the top of bass-heavy hip-hop beats. By the time she’d rounded off her set with a duo of drake covers, 'Passion Fruit' and 'One Dance' incase you were wondering, the crowd had well and truly loosened up.
Next up we were treated to a half an hour hip-hop vinyl masterclass from none other than Rebel Kleff, the mastermind producer behind Loyle Carner’s critically acclaimed debut album ‘Yesterday’s Gone’. Heads were bobbing all over the venue and the anticipation for the headline duo was palpable.
Making their way onto stage to what can only be described as an eruption of euphoria, Elisa & Srigala wasted no time in appeasing the hungry crowd with their infectious blend of hip-hop, jazz and RnB. Accompanied by band members on both the guitar and keys, their tracks felt live and organic without losing the undeniable punchy sub-bass from Srigala’s production that boomed through the Social Club's speakers throughout the set.
Highlights included ‘Luxor Street’ taken from their debut EP 1 O’clock club, a stunning performance of ‘Homesick’ for which Rayon Nelson joined them on stage and Srigala’s first entrance on to the mic which sent everyone into a frenzy.
The duo encapsulate everything that’s so good about the London music scene at the moment and this was reflected by the vibe of the night from beginning to end. Expect big things from these guys, we're certain they’re only just getting started.
