There comes an age where you only celebrate the Birthdays of those that are very dear to you, those that you’ve shared many special memories with and those that you could find hundreds of pictures and videos of littered throughout your phone. In which case there is no Birthday we could be happier to celebrate than The Jazz Cafe 2nd Birthday.
Having welcomed favourites of ours onto their stage such as of Jordan Rakei, Eli Ingram, Charlotte Day, Tom Misch, Leon Bridges, Nubya Garcia and many more, we’ve gleefully watched the Jazz Cafe go from strength to strength over the past couple of years and cement itself at the forefront of London’s thriving and forward thinking Jazz scene. And to celebrate their 2nd year since reopening they’re hosting a week long series of mouth watering Birthday events.
Here’s all you need to know.
12th & 13th June: Yasmine Hamdan Live - Kicking off the Birthday series with two dates, Lebanese singer songwriter Yasmine Hamdan will take to the stage to deliver velvet arabic tones and hypnotic melodies. With not one but two chances to catch this unique artist, you’ve got no excuses.
14th June: Rhythm Section Presents - 30/70, Vels Trio, Laura Misch - Day 2 of the Birthday series will see our Peckham neighbours Rhythm Section bring a mouth watering live lineup to The Jazz Cafe. You’ll be getting groove heavy hip-hop and soul from Melbourne collective 30/70, fizzing zany jazz from Vels Trio and electronic sax-led soul from Laura Misch. All of your favourite genres rolled into one evening.
15th June: Orchestre Poly-Rhythmo + Minyanta (live) - Day 3 of the Birthday will see 10 person strong band Orchestre Poly-Rhythmo fueling your feel good Friday with plenty of infectious Afrobeat and funk. Joining them will be Minyanta with their infectious bass led worldly grooves.
15th June: DJ Maseo (club) - For the second part of the evening the legendary DJ Maseo, one third of De La Soul, will be taking to the decks to provide a soundtrack of smooth hip-hop, disco and soul to keep you grooving until the early hours.
16th June: The Nujabes Experience (live) - Always paying respect to artists from both past and present, The Jazz Cafe winds down the Birthday series in perfect fashion with a celebration of one of the greatest beatmakers of the 20th century, Nujabes. Kidkanevil and Stompy’s Playground will be doing the hip-hop legend proud with their lo-fi hip-hop, breakbeat and nu-jazz selections.
16th June: SECRET GUESTS (club) - For the final chapter of the Birthday series The Jazz Cafe is curating an all star secret billing of heavy hitters from labels such as Rhythm Section, MCDE Recordings, Eglo Records and Exodus Records. If the rumours are true, this is not to be missed.
How generous of The Jazz Cafe to give out so many gifts on their own Birthday. So why don't you head over to The Jazz Cafe website and grab yourself some tickets. It'd be rude not to sign the card.
