iyamah’s blissful debut single lands this week’s track of the week.
We’ve kept half an eye on Brighton-born iyamah for these last few months. With clips like this doing the rounds, it’s fair to say we were pretty excited to hear she was releasing a debut single. Blending tingly guitar, a steady bassline and her smoky soulful voice, this one really hit the spot.
Reminiscing over falling in and out of love, this is a refreshingly honest debut from the Londoner. And while she’s new, she’s certainly no stranger to performing, having taken up slots at Glastonbury performing with My Nu Leng, as well as at SXSW and Latitude. For more goodness, check out her freestyle vocals here and other golden clips like this before she releases more.
In terms of what to expect next, her Instagram bio is more than enough for us: ‘Soulyneosoulbutkindofjazzyreggaeroots youknowhatamean?!’. Yes, we do know what you mean iyamah, and we’re excited. Do the sensible thing and grab a ticket to see her supporting Mahalia here.
