Track of the Week: Naji – ‘Do You’

Soul, funk and some seriously tight production - that’s what we’re bringing you this week. This fresh delivery from producer naji is a layered concoction of crisp breakbeat drums, chiming keys and a super smooth, laid back bassline. His impeccably soulful voice and sharp production make this a tune you’ll just want to listen to over and over again.

What’s even more exciting is that this track represents the start of his latest project entitled ‘The Optimist’, dropping 23rd June. We can’t wait.

Naji has taken the last twelve months by storm, having released a decent handful of originals, collabs and more in the realms of funk, soul and R&B. What makes his work particularly special is his commitment to his followers; his videos on Instagram and YouTube have cemented his reputation as the real deal.

In the same vein, he has also dived into the lyrics for this latest track on Genius. In his own words, “my most popular songs are the ones that break most compositional rules about song structure and are just written in my brain’s structure.” Preach it, naji.

Oh, in case you’re wondering whether he’s as good live as his recordings then fear not. Check out this live version of ‘Mona Lisa’ and let your wondering mind be more than satisfied.

We also noticed on Twitter that naji’s turning his production hand to writing songs ‘straight for the bedroom’. You might remember our man Mars Today said the same thing about his Track of the Week a few weeks ago. It looks like our ‘Somewhere Soul Bedroom Playlist’ is writing itself...

In the meantime, enjoy this masterful piece of production.
