Track of the Week: Wallace – ‘Diaspora’ (prod. Crooked Letter)

‘Damn.’ And we’re not actually referring to Kendrick’s new album. This last week has got to be one of the hardest weeks to pick just one track (good job we make monthly playlists too, right?)

Prepare yourself for an arrestingly smooth slab of soul; because this week we’re bringing you a fresh release from Australian vocalist, WALLACE.

This future soul singer is something special. The track represents her fifth release over the last two years and continues her streak of unrushed, extremely high production value songs.

Wallace Gollan’s background is in traditional jazz, and you can tell. Her music is a wonderful combination of blues, soul and hip-hop. Imagine a Lianne La Havas x Kaytranada collaboration and you’re almost there. She also already holds numerous musical accolades, including winning triple j’s unearthed Listen Out slot for Sydney.

This particular track is produced by Nigerian-Australian producer and rapper ‘Crooked Letter’ and it oozes class. It’s got everything we love to hear: delicate piano chords, intricate guitar licks, a funk-fuelled bassline and of course her unbelievably soulful voice.

Wondering what she’d be like live? Look no further that this flawless live version of her previous release ‘Raffled Roses’. Only 896 views? Think we’ve stumbled across a gem. Keep a close eye on this one.
